What happens at a typical New Patient Appointment?

In a typical New Patient appointment you will be checking in with the front desk. You will be filling a form with all your personal and functional information for our dentist and dental insurances. This forms are usually take 5-7 minutes to fill out.

First, our certified Dental Assistants will be taking x-rays for our dentist to provide you with a better diagnose.

After the x-rays, our doctors will perform a full dental exam that will check your teeth for cavities, periodontal disease, and any other dental issue. You will hear our dentist calling numbers, this procedure is called perio-charting. Dental Perio-charting is a process in which your dental healthcare professional lists and describes the health of your teeth and gums. This procedure is also done to identify what type of cleaning you may need.

Your dental cleaning may or may not be in the same day appointment. This depends on availability. You may ask our receptionists when making an appointment, if you could have your dental cleaning the same day.

There are three different types of dental cleanings:

  • Phrophylaxis - This cleaning is a regular cleaning, it is mostly for good standing teeth which only need polishing their teeth and minor cleaning.
  • Full Mouth Debridement - This cleaning is an intermediate type of cleaning that is a little more in-depth towards your gum line. The tool used for this procedure is the dental cavitron. This cleaning is a little more intense than the phrophylaxis.
  • Deep Cleaning- This type of cleaning is intense. This procedure could be divided in different appointments. Since your mouth is divided in four quadrants. Upper Right and Left, and Lower Right and Left. It depends on you how many quadrants you want to do per appointment. This procedure is also known as Scaling and Root Planning.
